April is the month of IPL and of reminiscing about India’s 2011 World Cup win. And yet, the Coronavirus pandemic seems to have snatched the joy of both from us.Even the release of Kabir Khan’s 83 starring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, leading Team India to its first World Cup victory, has been postponed. India was in desperate need of some divine intervention in the morale boosting department. Lo and behold, it is Sachin Tendulkar’s 47th birthday today, and your news feeds are once again brimming with cricketing moments!

Happy Birthday Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar’s 47th Birthday is nothing short of a celebration for India. If this were a different time, you’d probably see a different kind of celebration from fans. One of Sachin’s biggest fans, Sudhir, who has never missed meeting his idol since 2003, won’t be able to do it this year due to the obvious lockdown restrictions. But on social media, it is as if nothing has dimmed the joy of this day for the people.

From cricket fans and Tendulkar’s contemporaries and juniors (who call him Sachin Paaji), to fellow sportspersons and celebrities, everyone has made it a point to wish the Master Blaster, as he inches closer to a half century, a reminder that with Sachin, and entire generation of cricket-lovers is growing old.

From reminiscing about his debut, his landmark innings and the values he stood for to rewatching India’s 2011 World Cup win, where Team India hoisted Sachin on their shoulders for a victory lap around Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium or simply writing “Sachin! Sachin!” on their social media statuses, here’s how wishes are pouring in for birthday boy Sachin Tendulkar!

Let’s open properly, with a tweet from Virender Sehwag!

Happy birthday, Sachin Tendulkar! And thank you for fulfilling as often as inspiring a billion dreams!
