If you are wondering whether this is the teaser for the Rocky whose trailer you had seen all the way back in September 2019, you are correct. That trailer was released by Lahari Music and garnered over 1 million views. It gained a lot of traction on social media, with Varun Dhawan showering praises on the action and intensity of the trailer. But then for some reason and partly maybe because of the COVID-19 pandemic, all the buzz around it died down. Then during the tail-end of 2020, Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara picked it up and hence we have a bloody teaser.
The teaser is incredibly cryptic. There’s a shot of a man in a decrepit building. Then, by the looks of it, the same man is trapped and is watching someone close to him get absolutely mutilated by the titular character. That goes on and on and on and on and on and just when you think it’s done, it goes on for a little while longer And then there’s a shot of a woman lying on a clock. The trailer that was released over a year ago offers a little more context as it hints at the fact that Rocky is actually out for revenge. Why? Maybe his parents were killed? Maybe his wife and children were killed? I don’t know. The only thing that I know is that he’s pissed.
The most striking thing about Rocky is its visual style. You rarely get to see movies set in the Indian landscape look this good. It’s toeing line between being very artsy and John Wick-esque in nature. I think I even noticed a scene which feels very similar to the corridor hammer fight in Oldboy, which is also a revenge-thriller. So, I won’t be surprised if this movie draws parallels with it. There’s no report on the release date as of yet and whether it’s going to release theatrically or on an OTT platform. But either way, I would love to watch it because I am a sucker for action movies. Well-made action movies.
