And we finally have a release date for the Saina Nehwal biopic. After many delays and change of the protagonist, the film starring Parineeti Chopra is now releasing as soon as March 26. While earlier, Shraddha Kapoor was signed on-board to portray the ace badminton player, Chopra soon replaced her in the Amole Gupte directorial. Earlier, the athlete had earlier shared a picture of her ‘lookalike’. And it was enough to hint that we are in for a treat with Chopra looking the part to the T.
In fact, the first poster is out and while we still don’t have a glimpse of Chopra as Nehwal, it comes with a serve of the shuttlecock and a line that reads, “Maar doongi.” See for yourself.
Earlier, Parineeti Chopra had opened up about the process while shooting the film and was quoted saying, “This project is absolutely perfect for me. Amole (Gupte, director) sir and his team are ensuring I have everything that I need. A great physio team and world-class players have been roped in to train and condition me.”
“Everything from how Saina plays, who she has played with and against, every match she has been in has been documented. It’s important to imbibe all that information and present it on screen. I’m happy, but also very nervous, ” Chopra had added.
If you’re not in the know, it also stars Manav Kaul as Pullela Gopichand, Nehwal’s coach and will be seen in the film training Chopra on the court. He had even told Mumbai Mirror, “I used to play badminton as a child and thought I play well. But when I met Eshan (Naqvi), my trainer for the film, I realised I knew nothing about the sport and had to unlearn what I did and start from the scratch. My stamina was low, I’d fall down after just 10 minutes of playing, feeling like my heart would jump out of my body. But, Eshan was very patient and I learnt a lot from him.” It also features Paresh Rawal as Nehwal’s father Harvir Singh Nehwal. Gupte has also written the screenplay while it has been produced by Bhushan Kumar of T-Series.
