Recently, crowded pictures from Himachal Pradesh’s Manali went viral on social media for all the wrong reasons and gave us all a lot to think about. Mostly, about the looming threat of the third wave of Coronavirus. It rightly angered a lot of people who couldn’t help but recall the nightmarish condition that the deadly second wave left us in, breathing and gasping for oxygen. But it seems like a lot of people missed the memo, as evident by the callous and socially irresponsible behaviour that also includes the absence of masks and social distancing.

Like that wasn’t enough, another video from Mussoorie in Uttarakhand is going viral and unfortunately for similar reasons. After easing lockdown restrictions, Indian tourists have been flocking to hill stations to escape the scorching sun. And the situation looked grim at Kempty waterfalls when hundreds thronged to take a dip and bathe at the famous tourist-spot. Without masks and no trace of social distancing, soon videos of the site were shared on the bylanes of the internet. See it to believe it, although a fair warning – it might give you anxiety.

Yes, it gave me some and more. But I’m not the only one; many netizens are more scared about the third wave, if not anything. The others also didn’t shy away from calling ones assembled ‘covidiots’ and can you blame them?

Following the outcry, the Uttarakhand government announced on Friday that only 50 tourists will be allowed henceforth and not more than for half an hour, reports Hindustan Times. Ashish Srivastava, the district magistrate of Tehri Garhwal, was quoted saying. “Now only 50 tourists are allowed at Kempty Falls in Mussoorie and they cannot stay at the spot beyond half an hour. A check-post will be set up to monitor the tourists.”

Earlier, Lav Agarwal, joint secretary in the health ministry had stressed on following Covid-appropriate behaviour and vaccination and had stated, “People are indulging in revenge travel with restrictions being lifted. They need to understand that the virus and the disease are still here. People roaming in hill stations and markets without maintaining physical distance and not wearing masks can nullify the gains made in the management of the pandemic so far.”

With India still reeling and trying to recover from the year that way, it is extremely important to exercise restraint now more than ever.
