The Coronavirus lockdown cut us off from the world and restricted us to our rooms. Communication came to a standstill. Friendships and relationships were severed. And some even had to do their jobs despite the fear of dying. But we didn’t get to see all that because we were so overwhelmed by everything that was going on in our lives. The most we got were little snippets on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. However, by the looks of it, Home Stories is going to take us deep into the lives of many others, albeit fictional, who were affected by the lockdown.
Home Stories consists of four stories: Out With It ft. Arjun Mathur, Will You Be My Quarantine ft. Saba Azaad & Imaad Shah, Delivering Smiles ft. Tanmay Dhanania, Web Ne Bana Di Jodi ft. Veer Rajwant Singh & Apoorva Arora. And all of them have something to do with the current Coronavirus lockdown. Arjun is an agoraphobic and is trying his best to get out. Saba and Imaad had a one-night stand but the lockdown turned it into a three-week standoff. Tanmay is a delivery executive and has to deal with customers, who were annoying before as well, in a COVID-19 world. And Apoorva and Rajwant want to get married, digitally, and their parents are not too happy about it.
I think it was stupid to assume that filmmakers and storytellers wouldn’t use Coronavirus as a storytelling device. But thankfully, unlike one Ram Gopal Varma, some haven’t used it as a gimmick. We’re going through a pandemic FFS. It has changed us. So, it’s obvious that it’s going to change films. However, it’s important to see what has changed and how we can achieve some form of normalcy in the near future. And I think Home Stories is going to do just that.
Home Stories will stream on Netflix India’s YouTube channel on June 12 at 5 PM.
